★★★★★

- Devdhara - Himachal Pradesh

Devdhara – Himachal Pradesh is a compelling exploration of the cultural, spiritual, and ecological essence of Himachal Pradesh, penned by renowned journalist and author Dr. Rachna Gupta. The book delves into the ancient traditions, folk beliefs, and natural heritage that define this Himalayan state, portraying it not just as a geographical region but as a living, breathing entity — a land of the gods, or Devdhara.

Drawing from her deep roots in Himachal and years of field research, Dr. Gupta presents a richly textured narrative that blends history, sociology, and personal observation. From sacred shrines tucked away in remote valleys to the quiet resilience of mountain communities, the book paints a vivid picture of a state where nature and spirituality coexist in harmony.

This work is not only a tribute to Himachal's past but also a call to preserve its fragile ecology and cultural identity amidst modern challenges. Whether you're a scholar, traveler, or cultural enthusiast, Devdhara offers a rare and heartfelt window into the soul of Himachal Pradesh.

Shimla by Dr. Rachna Gupta is a vivid and insightful portrayal of one of India’s most iconic hill stations — the former summer capital of British India and the present capital of Himachal Pradesh. The book traces Shimla’s transformation from a quaint colonial retreat to a bustling center of culture, governance, and heritage.

Blending historical depth with journalistic observation, Dr. Gupta captures the city’s unique character — its charming architecture, layered history, vibrant local life, and its role as a political and administrative hub. She explores not only Shimla’s colonial roots and natural beauty but also its post-independence evolution, socio-political dynamics, and the challenges of urban growth in a fragile Himalayan environment.

Through rich anecdotes, research, and storytelling, Shimla becomes more than just a travelogue — it’s a cultural chronicle that invites readers to see the city not only as a destination but as a living heritage.
